Blizzard says RMT buyers on WoW Forever can lose gold or accounts
Blizzard says real-money trades are not allowed in WoW Forever, and buyers can lose illicit gold or have accounts closed.
Blizzard says real money transactions are not allowed in World of Warcraft, and that this covers the WoW: Forever Beta and Forever after it goes live.
"Real money transactions (RMT) are not acceptable in World of Warcraft, and we’re taking steps to address RMT in the WoW: Forever Beta, and of course, when WoW: Forever goes live and beyond."
What changes for players is who Blizzard goes after. Blizzard says it has always gone after RMT seller accounts as fast as it can, and it will increasingly go after buyer accounts too. That can mean the bought gold gets taken off the person who received it, more action on the account, or both, and closing the account is one of those further actions.
Blizzard is also telling players to be careful with gifts from strangers and other one-sided trades. If it looks like you knew, or should have known, the gold wasn't from a legit source, your account can get hit too.
Bought gold isn't treated like a clean handoff. Sellers were already the target, but buyers can now lose the gold, the account, or both, and a one-sided "gift" that doesn't look legit can end up the same way.
